A new role for Bell CEO

The Bell Educational Trust has today announced the departure of Chief Executive David Pottinger, who will be leaving the organisation in early 2010 to take up a new position with Obeikan Research and Development (ORD), one of Bell’s key strategic partners in the Middle East.

David joined Bell at the end of 2005 and, since then, has implemented a highly successful strategy of growth and expansion, which has seen the launch of ten new Bell centres worldwide - including the Trust’s flagship new international school in Kent - as well as reinforcing Bell’s global reputation for innovation and academic leadership.

A key element of this strategy has been the development of overseas projects, including the Preparatory Year Programme at King Saud University in Riyadh, which is jointly managed with ORD and has been described as “the largest ELT project in the world”.

In his new role, David will be responsible for the leadership of ORD and will oversee a portfolio of education businesses and partnerships, in K-12, educational technology, higher and vocational education, as well as the Bell-Obeikan partnership in English Language Teaching (ELT).

Announcing the move, Ellen Fleming, Chair of the Bell Educational Trust, said:

“Although we are obviously sad to see David move on, he will be leaving behind a strong and globally respected organisation which, under his leadership, has grown by over 57% in the past four years. David has been particularly successful in driving the export of Bell’s teaching and learning programmes overseas and, together with our partner ORD, we are pleased to have established Bell-Obeikan as a powerful and respected brand in the region.

“In his new role, David will continue to develop this partnership further – maximising the opportunities for Bell-Obeikan in Saudi Arabia – with his appointment effectively consolidating the relationship between our two organisations.

“We have already commenced the search for a new Chief Executive to take the Trust forward onto the next stage of its growth strategy and hope to announce further details of the new appointment within the next few months.”
