Bell International strengthens its management team with the creation of four new senior roles
20 June 2007
Four leading education professionals have recently joined Bell’s management team, bringing with them over 70 years of professional experience.
Jim Scrivener has been appointed to the newly created role of Head of Teacher Development and will be leading Bell’s teacher development programme worldwide. Jim is a household name in the ELT industry and is a leading authority on teacher training and development. He is the author of numerous teaching materials - including the ground-breaking “Learning Teaching” - and writes a monthly “teaching tips” column for the Guardian weekly. Jim also designed the EURO language exams, now widely used in Central and Eastern Europe.
Sue Harris has been appointed Vice Principal of Bell Bedgebury International School - Bell’s recently launched International Study Centre (ISC) - and brings with her an outstanding track record in the ISC sector, having played a key role in establishing the successful Taunton International Study Centre where she worked as Principal. A former British Council ISC Inspector, Sue will be responsible for the day to day running of the Bell Bedgebury International School.
Nicola Rendall-Jones has been appointed Director of Studies at Bell Bedgebury Language Centre, Bell’s newest EFL centre, hosted within the grounds of the Bell Bedgebury International School. Nicola will manage the delivery of the academic programme within the centre and enjoys extensive experience in delivering successful academic programmes at schools in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. She joins Bell from Insearch Language Centre, Australia.
Finally, Beverley Harrison is appointed Language and Activity Programmes Manager and will be responsible for the development of residential language-based activity programmes for young learners and also the emerging third age market. Bev will take over the operation of Bell’s highly successful Young Learner summer programmes, which this year increased to nine centres. Bev takes up her new role after six successful years in Malta, running Bell’s adult and young learner programmes on the island.
All of the roles will be based at Bell’s new 220 acre site in Kent and will report into Bell Bedgebury Principal, Bruce McGowen.
Commenting on the appointments, Bruce said: “This is my Dream Team. I’m delighted to have recruited such a high calibre group of individuals, who collectively boast an amazing amount of experience within the sector, together with the highest professional reputations.”
David Pottinger, Bell’s Chief Executive added: “Bell has recently embarked on an exciting new period of growth and development. Sue, Nicola and Bev are central to our plans to establish Bell Bedgebury International School as the leading institution of its kind in this country, whilst Jim will play a key role in ensuring that Bell’s longstanding reputation for innovation, academic excellence, and high quality teacher development is taken to a new level.”
