University Foundation Programme
Bell International College, Cambridge

The University Foundation Programme (UFP) at Bell International College, Cambridge is a full-time academic year course which prepares international students for studying at undergraduate level at university in the UK. A fully integrated course, it provides students with all the language and skills they need for university life.

Experience has shown that there are three essential skill sets needed for international students to achieve the maximum possible academic and personal development whilst studying on an English-medium higher education programme:

  • Excellent English language skills, written and oral, and specific exposure to English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
  • A full range of study skills and experience and exposure to a range of different contemporary learning modes and styles
  • An appreciation and understanding of British life and culture to ensure successful integration into university life

Consequently, the University Foundation Programme combines general English and academic training with specialist subject modules focusing on students’ specified areas of interest, whilst helping them to learn about life in Britain, to gain essential computing skills and to develop their IELTS exam skills.

Crucially, although Bell maintains strong links and relationships with an impressive range of leading universities, the UFP is completely independent of any single institution so students are free to apply to any British university.

All UFP students have access to a complementary Higher Education Counselling service, which can provide invaluable support in a number of ways:

  • Impartial counselling to help students select the right course to meet their individual aims and ambitions.
  • Impartial counselling to help students select the right institution.
  • Help and support through the Universities and Colleges Administration Service (UCAS) application process.
  • Helping to arrange visits to universities students are interested in and arranging a programme of presentations from visiting universities.
